ACCOKEEK, Md. - Two suspects fleeing police crashed head-on into a utility truck in Accokeek Thursday afternoon, sending three people to the hospital, authorities said.

According to a Charles County Sheriff's Department spokesperson, it all began with the report of breaking and entering at a home in Waldorf. A neighbor gave a description of the vehicle and suspects to police.

"The caller gave us a description of the car, and there was a sticker on the back of the car that was pretty unique," said a police officer at the scene who could not be immediately identified. "The two burglars that had run from the house -- we believe they may have been frightened by the neighbor -- jumped into the car."

Charles County officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over but the vehicle kept going and officers began a pursuit, a spokesperson said. Authorities said the high-speed chase lasted five or six miles, and the men in the car were throwing gloves and tools out the window.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into the utility truck in the 16300 block of Gardner Road in Accokeek.

Prince George's County Fire and EMS reports two men in their 20s -- the suspects -- were flown by MedEvac helicopter to a trauma center. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The driver of the utility truck, a man in his 50s, was taken to a trauma center by ground. He is expected to be OK, authorities said.

Police say the two suspected burglars didn't actually steal anything.
