Former Metrobus Driver Sentenced to 1 Year in Jail

A former Metrobus driver convicted of striking and killing two pedestrians on Valentine's Day was sentenced to one year in prison Wednesday.
Victor Kolako was found guilty on two felony counts of negligent homicide after reaching a deal with prosecutors that prison time would not exceed three years. Kolako's lawyer is trying to get the sentenced reduced by a day so as to not affect his immigration status.
The accident happened on Pennsylvania Avenue last February.
Wednesday's sentencing comes on the heels of Metro's fifth bus- and pedestrian-involved death this year.
Just Monday, a Metrobus struck and killed a man in Montgomery County.
The widower of one of the victims, Greg Schoenborn, has also filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against Metro in U.S. District Court.
