ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Amy Lamjav hit the stores Friday for a jump start on the holidays.
"We're just looking for Christmas presents for her and for her just trying to get a handle on what things are costing and different things that she likes," she said.
When it comes to the Christmas wish list, both parents and Santa might be in luck this year. The National Retail Federation has released its annual top-ten toys for girls and boys. While both include the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS, low-priced toys, surprisingly, are at the top.
"They're not that expensive, so if you can come out and if they have a sale on them as well it's good to get them," said Kamille Johnson.

For girls, Barbie tops the list at number one. Then there are dolls: Hannah Montana, Dora the Explorer, and a new addition, coming in at number ten, Zhu Zhu Pets, a robotic interactive hamster, purportedly all the rage for young girls.
For boys, the top ten is almost everything in the store: video games, transformers, legos, and cars.
Dawn Nelson admits her son is "totally into cars right now."
Also for boys: trucks, Hot Wheels, Fisher Price and a new craze: Bakugan games and action figures based on the animated series.
"Bakugan is huge," said Tom Turley, who was shopping for his son and daughter Friday, adding that "LEGOs [and] Star Wars are the biggest thing that he's asking for."
His daughter, he added, "loves Dora and anything princess."
Another thing making things easier on shoppers this year is retailers' worries about the holiday season. Across the nation, retailers and mall owners are trying to spark the holiday spirit with longer hours, more live music, twittering elves and even fresh-baked cookies.
