WASHINGTON - A father is angry over what he says a classmate is writing about his daughter on Facebook. He is demanding that a school take action against a student he says is harrassing his daughter online.
When asked if he'd ever been bullied on Facebook student Danny Dyson said, "Yeah, all the time. They're telling me what they're going to do to me..."
Dyson said he's not worried about it, but Edward Sargent is alarmed by what his 13-year-old daughter showed him after she accepted an older teen she barely knew as a Facebook friend.
He said they are "obnoxious, slanderous, threatening, vile, x-rated communications to my daughter..."
He's most alarmed because the girl and his daughter ride the same bus to the same charter school.
"She feels that she needs protection. She needs someone to let her know that she doesn't have to worry about this," said Sargent.
He's reported the matter to the school, but school officials feel their options are limited so they are contacting the girl's parents.
"Because this happened outside of school we feel that its important that the parents be involved in this," said Martha Cutts, the head of Washington Latin charter school.
D.C. Psychologist Edwin Nichols stated, "This is serious not just children being children."
Nichols says Sargent's daughter is luckier than some in fighting cyber bullying.
"She says 'daddy, this is what's being done' with the expectation that daddy's going to do something about it," said Nichols.
We're not naming either of the students involved but Sargent says his daughter travels to school alone and he does not want her to be concerned about her safety.
The school says it has yet to mention the matter to the older girl, but is moving to set up a meeting with her parent.
