WASHINGTON - A man leaving the funeral of a shooting victim was himself gunned down Wednesday while boarding a Metrobus after the service, and community members say Wednesday's victim was the brother of a teenager shot and killed by D.C. police.

People in the community identified Wednesday's victim as George Rawlings, 21, the brother of DeOnte Rawlings, who was shot by an off-duty police officer Sept. 17, 2007, in Southeast. The shooting was ruled justified.

Sources tell ABC 7 News that Rawlings had visited Capitol Mortuary Wednesday morning to attend the funeral of 19-year-old Ashton Hunter, who was gunned down on Halloween.

The Rawlings' family's attorney told the Washington post that Rawlings had witnessed Hunter's murder on Oct. 31 and had been in hiding since.

Rawlings had just left the funeral home on Wednesday as was boarding the bus when he was shot about 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of 14th and H streets Northeast, along the thriving H Street Corridor.

"He was just boarding the bus," said MPD Assistant Chief Patrick Burke. "He was actually on board and was shot while standing in the doorway, shot by shooters on the outside of the bus. The bus driver subsequently closed the doors and took the bus westbound."

Witnesses said the victim's feet were hanging out of the bus as the driver fled. A paramedic who witnessed the incident got ahead of the bus and stopped it, witnesses said, Some of the bus passengers jumped over the victim to get off the bus, the witnesses added.

DeOnte Rawlings was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer at the age of 14.
