CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Volunteers from around the country are in Virginia looking for a missing student.
Twenty-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington hasn't been seen since she left a Metallica concert in Charlottesville on October 17. Friday, volunteers started a three-day search for her on the sprawling ground of the University of Virginia campus
UVA student Abhilekh Kumar has volunteered to look for Harrington. Kumar said, "When I think of her family and the situation that she might be in right now and if there is anything I can do that can help, I think that's what the motivation is for me."
Kelly Giltner and her sister Cathryn from Ashburn, both students at UVA, say this opportunity gives them a chance to do something with their feelings of fear and frustration.
"It was frightening at first," shared Kelly Giltner. "The fact that I could help out really was comforting, personally."
Her sister Cathryn added, "I want to do something, 'cause it's something different than reading the newspaper every morning."
Fellow Virginia Tech students have traveled from Blacksburg to the UVA campus for the three-day search coordinated by the Laura Recovery Center. The center is a private group Morgan's parents invited to get as many people to cover as much ground as possible.
"We need people out there just walking through the brush, walking through the gullies looking for any sign Morgan might have been there," said Bob Smither with the Laura Recovery Center.
The searches will continue Saturday and Sunday. Morgan Harrington's parents say they will sponsor more in their quest for answers.
Searcher John Guillot said, "You don't know if you hope you find something or nothing, but you hope you may find some sort of trace that leads on to happier discovery."
