LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Police in Arkansas have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a popular TV anchorwoman.

Curtis Lavelle Vance, 28, was arrested only two hours after investigators publicly named him as a suspect in the murder of Anne Pressly.

Vance, of Marianna, Ark., was captured at a Little Rock home, about 90 miles to the east. Police say they were tipped to his location.

Vance was booked on a capital murder charge. Police Chief Stuart Thomas said investigators had a "a very, very solid case due to solid detective work." He declined to elaborate.

Little Rock police Lt. Terry Hastings had said previously that DNA and other evidence from the scene gave police a portrait of the suspect, though they did not have a name until this month. One of Pressly's credit cards was used at a gas station after the beating, but Hastings said security camera footage didn't provide a good look at the person using it.

Pressly's murder stunned Little Rock. She worked KATV-TV, a sister station of ABC 7/NewsChannel 8.

Pressly's mother found her Oct. 20, a half-hour before she was due on KATV's 5 a.m. "Daybreak" program. There were no signs of forced entry nor a struggle. Pressly's head and upper body had been beaten. She never regained consciousness and died five days later.

"I came into her bedroom and I found Anne right here, and I just could not take in what I was seeing," Pressly's mother, Patti Cannady, told Good Morning America recently.

"You know, we have a very strong faith," added Guy Cannady, Pressly's father. "And we have no doubt where Anne is today. And we're going to celebrate, not only her life, but the life in the hereafter for her."

Pressly was a native of Greenville, S.C., and moved with her family to Little Rock while she was in high school. She was a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., which has discussed establishing a scholarship to honor her.

In the Oliver Stone movie "W" - the subject of a news story she covered as the film was being shot in Shreveport, La. - Pressly appeared briefly as a conservative commentator who speaks favorably of President Bush (web|news|bio) 's "Mission Accomplished" event on an aircraft carrier after the start of the Iraq (web|news) War.
