Police say 22-year-old Jason Roth of Damascus was killed Saturday when his car hit a tree after veering off a road north of Laytonsville. Police say Roth was alone in the car and was wearing a seat belt.
The car was discovered by an off-duty Fairfax County (web|news) Fire and Rescue employee, who called 911.
Roth was a forward on Magruder's varsity soccer team in 2002 and 2003 and was a Washington Post All-Met honorable mention in those years. The school's head boys' varsity soccer coach Steve Pfeil says Magruder is like a close family and the news of Roth's death hit him "like a ton of bricks." County police are investigating the crash.
