CHEVERLY, Md. - Being held by family members, still woozy, and her face swollen, Patricia Jones left Prince George's Hospital.
Just a few hours earlier, the Bladensburg High School teacher was beaten until she lost consciousness in the hallway of her school after breaking up a fight between two tenth graders.
In the emergency room after she regained consciousness, Jones told her daughters what happened. She said that as she tried to calm down one of the students, the second student jumped in. Jones became caught in between the two as they fought.
Her daughters are now wondering how this happened to their mother, a teacher they said her students love.
Jones' daughter Latricia Jones said her mother was punched. "She was knocked completely out for 45 minutes," she added.
A school security team of six or seven people, including a Prince George's County Sheriff's Deputy rushed to the scene to break up the fight.
They separated the students and took Jones to the nurse's office. She was then taken to the hospital.
Jones is expected to recover fully and no one yet has been charged in the case.
