GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Montgomery County (web | news) Police detectives are investigating the rape of a housekeeper at a motel in Gaithersburg Thursday afternoon.

Around noon at the Motel 6 at 497 Quince Orchard Road, police say a 24-year-old female housekeeper was cleaning a room in a secluded part of the motel with the door open and her cleaning cart just outside the door. She told them she heard the door slam shut and was sexually assaulted by a male wearing a mask.

For motel guests, the crime scene was an upsetting thing to see.

"You've gotta have some sort of a problem, ya know. It just blows my mind that someone would do something like that," said Bill Roberts, a motel guest.

Hotel employees declined to speak to us on camera but one man did say the crime had shattered his sense of security and he feared for the victim's well being.

Guests wondered about their own safety.

Roberts said, "And I’ve been to some pretty bad places but for something like that to happen around here, it's ridiculous."

"Not in a million years would I think that would happen here. I mean, especially to someone like who cleans the hotel rooms, a perfect stranger to come up and do that, it's crazy,” said motel guest Matt Smith.

After the attack, the housekeeper did see the male driving a green four-door vehicle from the back of the motel towards the front of the building. Detectives are hoping that neighboring businesses’ surveillance cameras may have gotten a picture of the getaway car.

As for the suspect, he is described as six to six-feet-four-inches tall, weighing over 200 pounds, with short hair. He was wearing a mask, a green sweater, black pants, and a gold necklace.

If you have any information about the assault or suspect, please call police at 240-773-5070.
