WASHINGTON - The D.C. Republican Party has called for the resignation of shadow Sen. Paul Strauss after he was arrested for driving drunk on Oct. 1.

According to court records, Strauss was charged with driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while impaired after being stopped in the 2000 block of Calvert Street NW at the beginning of this month. Few other details regarding the shadow senator's arrest have been released, but court documents state this is the first time he has been charged with driving drunk.

Strauss, however, was detained back in 2005 for disorderly conduct after he approached police officers as they were arresting another man, according to Washington City Paper. The Democratic shadow senator for D.C. Is currently seeking a third six-year term in Tuesday's election.
