Three Fatal Shootings in Two Hours Plague D.C.

WASHINGTON - D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty says three men were shot and killed in the span of 3 hours Wednesday afternoon in broad daylight, leading the District to 2007's homicide total. All three shootings happened east of the Anacostia River.
The first shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the 5700 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE near a bus stop. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier (

bio) says the victim was shot twice and died on the scene of the incident. Police are on the lookout for a dark-colored SUV.

The second fatal shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. A seventh district officer found a man who had been shot lying in front of 3505 Wheeler Road, SE. The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:09 pm. In this shooting, police are looking for a beige colored SUV.
The third shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. at 22nd and Alabama Ave SE. A off-duty officer heard gunshots and responded to a shopping center near a barber shop. Police say the victim was shot in the chest and later died. The shooter was believed to be on foot. The victim has been identified by police as 37-year-old David Tucker of District Heights.
