LEESBURG, Va. - Loudoun County (web|news) sheriff's deputies have charged 20 teenagers with underage possession of alcohol after busting an after-homecoming party for Briar Woods High School students over the weekend.

Deputies were called to the home on Evergreen Mills Road in Leesburg around 1 a.m. Sunday and found the teens with bottles and boxes of alcohol.

Two teens suffering from alcohol-related side effects were sent to area hospitals as a precaution. The rest of the teenagers were released to their parents.

Now the school has taken action against the students, who have been suspended.

"Scholarships are being ruined and people are getting kicked off teams," said one student who didn't want to be identified, "but at the same time no one should have been doing it, so..."

"It, like, stinks for all the people [who] got caught, because they got kicked off teams or suspended," added another student.

Students believe someone dropped the dime on the party goers.

"Everyone thinks that it was some kid at our school [who] called in, somebody [who] wasn't invited and was mad about it," said the student. "Really, everyone was talking about it."

Loudoun County Sheriff Steve Simpson does not apologize for taking a tough line on underage drinking.

"If you're under 21, it's not acceptable, and that's the lesson that needs to be learned," he said.

The school is also taking the matter seriously.

"The biggest thing that scares me is that alcohol is poison, students can overdose on it, but even to the point of, you know, just getting drunk enough to get in a car and still think that you can handle it," said Allyne Zappalla, with Loudoun County public schools.

Police also say that the 47-year-old woman who owns the house was present during the party. She has not been charged.

An investigation into how the teens got the alcohol is under way and more charges are possible.
