Prince George's County Police say they are investigating the death of a woman found dead inside a Forrestville apartment as a homicide.
Police responded to the Westwood Park apartment building in the 6300 block of Hil Mar Drive around 7:30 a.m. Sunday for a trauma call placed by a male resident. Authorities are calling the woman's death a homicide. But won't say how she was killed.
Residents of the Forrestville condo complex woke to the sight of homicide detectives and squad cars Sunday. "It's not everyday you wake up to a parking lot full of crime scene investigators and somebody tells you someone was murdered," said Shania Hill, a resident.
Neighbors, however, say they heard a male resident and his girlfriend arguing sometime after 11 p.m. Saturday night.
Around the same time, resident Patricia Quarles said she heard gunfire. "At first I thought it was firecrackers or something, but it was like you could tell definitely it was a gun," Quarles said. "They were in rapid succession, like four gunshots fired."
Although no one is sure exactly where those shots were fired, resident Rakeda Thompson said she had seen the male resident and his girlfriend arguing earlier in the week and saw that same man driven away in a police car early Sunday.
Police continue to investigate the case as residents of the community continue to look for answers. "I was concerned. I've only been here since July, and you know, I'm beginning to wonder about my safety," Quarles said.
"Anytime you find an individual dead in an apartment or anywhere for that matter, is a sad situation," said Cpl. . Stephen Pacheco, Prince George's County Police. "I'm sure investigators are looking into all avenues, of people related or who might have been here last night or early this morning."
Police say they continue to look for possible suspects in the case. They did not say if the male resident is a witness or what role he may have had in the woman's death.
