(Sports Network) - Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki inched closer to her third title this year, overpowering seventh seed Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand, 6-4, 6-1 Friday in the quarterfinals of the $175,000 Japan Open Tennis Championships.
The top-seeded Wozniacki, who is just 18-year-old, has titles at Stockholm and New Haven, vaulting her to a current ranking of 16th in the world.
Next up in the semifinals for the Dane will be a matchup against Slovakia's Jarmila Gajdosova, a 7-5, 7-5 quarterfinal winner over Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic.

Fifth seed Kaia Kanepi of Estonia was a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-1) victor over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia. Kanepi's semifinal opponent will be eighth seed Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada, who posted a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Australian Samantha Stosur.
The 2008 Japan Open champion will collect $28,000.
