Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon is thinking ahead to the possible legalization of slot machines in Maryland.
Administration officials tell The (Baltimore) Sun that a slots venue could be located in an 11-acre warehouse district south of the stadium complex. The city owns most of the property. Deputy Mayor Andrew Frank says putting slots there would keep them out of residential neighborhoods and renting the land to a private slots operator would help reduce the city's property tax rate and pay for new schools.

Baltimore is one of five slots locations specified in a proposal by Governor Martin O'Malley to legalize the machines in Maryland.
