(Sports Network) - Top-seeded Chinese Shuai Peng highlighted Tuesday's first-round winners at the $145,000 Tashkent Open. Peng handled Russian lucky-loser Arina Rodionova 6-4, 6-1 on the hardcourts at Tashkent Tennis Centre.

Meanwhile, third-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea beat Belarusian Ekaterina Dzehalevich 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, while sixth-seeded Romanian Monica Niculescu topped Ukrainian Olga Savchuk 7-5, 0-1, as Savchuk retired due to an illness.

NewsChannel 8 myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Upsets came when qualifier Ksenia Palkina of Kyrgyzstan erased second-seeded Belarusian Olga Govortsova 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-5 and Poland's Urszula Radwanska dismissed seventh-seeded crowd favorite Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Several other women reached the second round, including rising Portuguese teenager Michelle Larcher de Brito, Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru and Belarusian Tatiana Poutchek.

The 2008 Tashkent champion will collect $22,925.
