Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden visited Battleground Virginia Friday, part of the ticket's week-long focus on female voters.
Scores of people gathered in Claude Moore Park in Sterling to hear the longtime Delaware senator speak about how Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama (web|news|bio), and Biden, would help women, if elected.
Among the policies backed by the Obama-Biden ticket, according to Biden, are tax breaks for working mothers, an expansion of the earned income tax credit -- which target poor families, and child care tax breaks.
"We value equal pay for equal work; we value a minimum wage that allows people at least -- at least -- to get by to the next day. We value family, which means that we value people getting paid leave to care for their sick child, to be able to go to a parent-teacher meeting," Biden said.
"Barack and Joe will fight for us everday," added Biden's wife, Jill.
Judy Feder, the Democratic candidate for Virginia's 10th District congressional seat also spoke:
"We need change now," she said, "and no one knows that better than women!"
Biden also touted his record on combating domestic violence while in the Senate. Biden authored the 1994 Violence Against Women Act, which he credits for a decline in domestic abuse.
Many women were pleased with the message.
"I hope that my daughter can follow in Michelle's footsteps and Hillary Clinton's footsteps not politically, but that they can have careers and family's at the same time," said Jane Jaffe, a voter who said she supports the Obama-Biden ticket.
On Wednesday, Biden's Wife and Obama's wife held a get-out-the-vote rally at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville aimed at female voters. Michelle Obama also headlined an economic roundtable on women's economics in Richmond.
