LANDOVER HILLS, Md. - A Prince George's County couple says a stray bullet came close to hitting their 10-month-old inside their home in Landover Hills Thursday night.
The bullet holes left behind in the picture window, wall and deck continue to haunt the Grandison family a day after their apartment was hit by stray bullets.
"You get thoughts you don't want...what If something had happened, those are my kids!" Tinika Grandison said.
It was only a matter of inches between 7-year-old Nicholas sitting on the couch and baby Joshua in his walker and the bullet that shattered their sense of security.
"I was sitting holding my baby brother's hand [and] just heard a boom," recalled 7-year-old Nicholas.
According to police, two rival gangs had collided at the apartment complex pool and began arguing. One side left, and from the parking lot, fired toward the crowded pool at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday night. At least one round hit the Grandison's unit.
"Its crazy and its over stupid stuff. Because words were exchanged how ridiculous can you be," said
"Now we can't even go to the pool I don't want to go to pool," said Tinika.
The Grandisons know things like this happen all too often, and out of fear of reprisal, most victims won't speak out. But they say the stakes are far too for silence.
"It has to stop. We are just killing of just killing of generations...something has to be done something has to be said this madness has to stop," added Tinika.
Police responded to the scene quickly and were able to get a glimpse of car believed to be involved in the incident. They say they have arrested two people believed to be involved.
