(Sports Network) - D.C. United's Jaime Moreno missed a penalty kick and New York goalkeeper Jon Conway made five saves for his third straight shutout as the rivals battled to a 0-0 draw Saturday night at RFK Stadium. Conway posted his seventh shutout overall - although he didn't have to save the penalty because Moreno fired wide - but was matched by United goalkeeper Louis Crayton, who posted his third shutout in four starts.

New York (8-6-8) and United (10-10-2) remained tied for fourth in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference with 32 points. New York had its three-game winning streak snapped, but is unbeaten in six overall.

D.C. United's Luciano Emilio, who leads the team with 11 goals, had a chance to put his side in front in the sixth minute but headed over the bar. Moreno had a chance in the ninth minute but was denied by Conway.

Dave van den Bergh fired high off a free kick in the 11th minute on New York's first good chance, and Emilio was denied from a few yards out by Conway in the 13th minute.

Crayton, who was recently signed to take over as United's top goalie, made his first big save in the 17th minute to deny Juan Pablo Angel. Conway matched him with another save on Emilio in the 36th minute to keep the game scoreless.

With a sluggish second half nearly 35 minutes old, Moreno set up the top chance of the match when he was brought down in the area by New York's Andrew Boyens.

Moreno, who always takes D.C.'s penalties, wasted the chance by drilling a shot wide left. Conway didn't even make an attempt at the ball but it didn't matter.

Angel had a chance in the 86th minute but fired wide of the left post from a tough angle and Crayton made another good save on a Boyens' header in the 89th.

Santino Quaranta had D.C.'s last chance in the 91st but Conway made the last of his saves to preserve the point on the road.

Both clubs will try to get back in the win column on Sept. 6 when United visits San Jose and New York visits Chicago.
