(Sports Network) - Virginia Tech head football coach Frank
Beamer named senior Sean Glennon starting quarterback for the 2008 season on
Tuesday.
Glennon beat out sophomore Tyrod Taylor for the job. Beamer said Tuesday that
Taylor, who completed 72-of-134 passes for 927 yards with five scores and
three interceptions last season as a true freshman, will redshirt this year.
Taylor, a more mobile quarterback than Glennon, gained 429 yards on 102
carries last season with six rushing touchdowns.
Beamer said Tuesday that senior Cory Holt will serve as the No. 2 quarterback
behind Glennon.
Glennon opened the 2007 season as starting QB, but was replaced by Taylor
several times during the season. Glennon completed 143-of-235 passes, a 60.9-
percent completion percentage, for 1,796 yards with 12 touchdowns and five
interceptions.
Virginia Tech opens its season at noon (et) on Saturday when it takes on East
Carolina at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
