The 18-year-old Bethesda man accused of stockpiling guns and bomb-making materials may have been plotting to the kill the President of the United States, ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 learned Tuesday at a court hearing.
During a raid at Collin McKenzie-Gude's home last week, investigators seized four assault rifles, two shotguns, a handgun and bomb-making materials, including wires, timers, pipes and 50 pounds of chemicals from his home. In addition, they found a map of Camp David -- the presidential retreat in Maryland -- with the presidential motorcade route marked on it, police said.
Also found were two fake photo IDs: one for the CIA and one for a government contractor, such as those working in Iraq (web|news), police said.
When state's attorney John McCarthy was asked if McKenzie-Gude was planning a presidential assassination, he said, "I am absolutely not going to comment on that."

McKenzie-Gude, who'd been in JROTC and on the St. John's rifle team, also had a to-do list. Prosecutors say that by October, he planned to acquire body armor and range-finding glasses like those used by snipers, and other equipment.
Since McKenzie-Gude may have been an intern with the Montgomery County (web|news) Police, they believe he took stationary to order bullet-proof vests and other materials.
"Perhaps this stationary was used to make it look as those these items were being acquired for law enforcement purposes," said Montgomery County police spokesperson Lucille Baur.
Sources tell ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 the unidentified boy as a graduate from St. John's College High School. A 17-year-old alleged co-conspirator on the guns and explosives case is set not to return for his senior year. But parents are still talking. "It just concerns you. You just don't know what a lot of these students are up to," said Clarence Galloway, a parent whose daughter will be a freshman this fall.
Neighbors surrounding the Gude's Rockhurst Road residence noted how private the family had always been. "The only time we ever see him is when he's outside helping with the yard work, that's basically it. They keep to themselves," said Nicole Ventura.
McKenzie-Gude was in court Tuesday to face a carjacking charge. Investigators say he tried to take a car last Monday from an elderly man at White Flint Mall. Bond in the carjacking case was set a $750,000.
His parents, Joe and Debra Gude, left the courthouse with little to say. "We don't have any comments for the press--you're welcome to talk to our attorney," said Debra Gude.
McKenzie-Gude's attorney says his client has never been in trouble before. Steven Kupferberg says his client "would never hurt anybody, never has in the past and won't in the future." He also claims police are rushing to judgment about the items seized in the raid.
Investigators also say they found a list containing the addresses of McKenzie-Gude's former teachers at St. John's College High School in the District.
McKenzie-Gude is being held in solitary confinement. His plans to attend American University's School of International Service this fall have been put on hold.
Police say Collin McKenzie-Gude's father, 62-year-old Joseph Gude, bought the firearms for his son. He has been charged with perjury and other offenses.
