Montgomery County (web|news) Council President Mike Knapp says he wants to consider bringing HOT lanes to Maryland.
Knapp says it's "silly" that high occupancy/toll lanes are planned for Virginia's portion of the Capital Beltway but will end as soon as drivers cross over into Maryland.
However, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett says he is opposed to toll lanes.
Virginia officials kicked off a $1.4 billion project last month to bring HOT lanes to their side of the beltway. The lanes will be free to vehicles carrying three or more people, but everyone else will have to pay a toll.
The project is expected to take five years to complete.
