LAKE RIDGE, Va. - A man and woman walking their dog Monday evening in Lake Ridge were attacked by armed robbers, police say.

It happened at an apartment complex in the 3200 block of Ridge View Court. around 10 p.m. The complex is near a shopping center and Lake Ridge Middle School located on Old Bridge Road.

"I heard it was three people [who] did the assault or whatever," said Mike Alcantara, a Dominion Lake Ridge resident.

According to Prince William County (web | news) Spokeswoman Erika Hernandez, the duo was approached by three masked men, one of whom was armed with a handgun and another with a taser.

Police say a man, 29, was knocked to the ground and tasered when he told the attacker he had no money. He was walking with a 33-year-old woman, who pleaded with the attackers and said she could go to her apartment and get money, according to police. The victims were forced into their apartment. The thieves left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

"That's horrible, that's horrible," added resident Cpl. Stanley Robertson. "I don't know what would go through someone's [mind] to do that."

A neighbor who was shoved out of the way as the muggers ran off said, "Having another person with you maybe doesn't deter someone as much as you think it would and it's sad [be]cause this is a pretty nice neighborhood."

"Anybody can get their hands on a tasers nowadays," added Richard Garlick, a Dominion Lake Ridge resident. "It's not just for law enforcement personnel any more."

The victims suffered minor injuries, Hernandez said.

The attackers got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police, and were wearing black pants, shirts and ski masks during the incident. Police say one of the men wore the mask from the horror film, "Scream."

Prince William County police are on the lookout for the three suspects. They say at this point, they have no leads.
