(Sports Network) - FC Dallas forward Jeff Cunningham was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 16, it was announced on Monday.

Cunningham scored two goals, his 106th and 107th of his MLS career, to help lead Dallas to a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

"I really wanted to have a good performance and I felt I had a lot to prove," Cunningham said. "After 12 years in the league I still feel I need to prove myself. [Saturday] was just that desire to come out and have that kind of impact on the game."

Cunningham gave the home Hoops a 2-0 first-half lead in a two minute span and his team hung on for just its fourth win in 16 league fixtures so far this season.

"I thought the team played well and they created those opportunities for me," Cunningham said. "I am very thankful that I put those away. I needed those."

The award is Cunningham's 10th career player of the week honor, which is the most all-time in league history.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters. The group consists of members of online, print, television and radio media. More information can be found at www.soccerreporters.com.
