WASHINGTON - What happens when you take eight strangers, put them in a house on S Street NW and tape their lives for MTV's the Real World D.C.? A spectacle on city streets and cyberspace.
Many fans of the show can't stay away.
"We live in the area and I always watch the Real World, so we wanted to come check it out," said Ashleigh DeThomasis.
"What the TV show is there's a good chance you might make it on television yourself and everyone secretly wants a little claim to fame," added Andrew Spinelli.
But not all Washingtonians are pleased. Some have used new media tools to vent their frustration by Twittering up-to-the-minute spottings of cast members, by Facebooking about run-ins and by blogging, creating sites like the Anti-Real World DC.
We caught up with two cast members out front of their new digs.
Cast member Josh said it was a case of the "bad outweighing the good right now." He added, It's not even a question right now.
They say the attention's been extreme and most Washingtonians they've run into aren't happy with the show's taping.
"People post where they are, people following them around it's just going to bring a bunch of teenagers into the neighborhood and we really don't want that," said Dupont Circle resident Bryann Baker.
