BURTONSVILLE, Md. - After more than 20 years, a popular farmer's market in Burtonsville, Md. will close its doors over the holiday weekend, but will reopen in a new location.
Customers from all over Montgomery County
(web | news) and beyond the beltway have flocked to the Dutch Country Farmer's Market ever since it opened 22 years ago.
"They like their chicken wings, ribs and chicken, produce, candies, lots of different things," said manager Sam Beiler. "I like their bacon," said customer Kaden Bennett.
It's not just the food that keeps folks coming back. Behind the counter are friendly employees and most of them are Amish. "I like how the people are a lot nicer than normal grocery stores," said shopper Sage Bennett.
All of the vendors are from Lancaster, Penn. and they pride themselves on mostly organic products. "It's kind of an experience to come here. They can come to the store and meet the same people every week and fresh product," said Beiler.
But some big changes are in store for the popular spot for shoppers. "We'll be closing for a few months and we'll be relocating to Laurel," said Beiler.
The last day is July 4th and the space will be redeveloped to make way for a grocery chain.
"I was sort of disappointed because I like coming here a lot," said Kaden. "That's great because that means they'll be closer to me," said shopper Rose Tatum.
Vendors are hoping the customers move with the business. "I'm going to miss the people. I like this location hopefully we can take the customers all over," said vendor Henry Stolpzfus.
It'll be a few months before the new store is ready for business, but most people say they'll go the extra mile for the food, the service and the overall experience.
