(Sports Network) - Red Bull New York signed Mexican defender Diego Jimenez to a developmental contract Tuesday.
Jimenez, 22, was previously with Mexican club Tecos for the past three seasons, making 26 appearances for the club. Born in Tepatitlan, Mexico, Jimenez was a starter for the Mexican Under-21 and Under-20 national teams.
"Diego will provide depth and experience to our defense and we're confident that he will compete for a starting position," Red Bull New York Sporting Director Jeff Agoos said.

Per League and club policy, specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Red Bulls (5-6-7) will host an exhibition match against Spanish La Liga power Barcelona on Aug. 6 at Giants Stadium at 7 p.m. (ET) before returning to Major League Soccer action on Aug. 10 against D.C. United.
