Fire Injures One at Maryland Power Plant

Prince George's County firefighters put out a two-alarm equipment fire at Maryland's largest power plant.
Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says a man working at the site was critically injured with second-degree burns and was taken via medivac to the hospital.
Firefighters were called to the Chalk Point Generating Station in Aquasco at about 9:40 a.m. for an equipment fire at a five-story building at the site. The fire was extinguished at 11:50 a.m.
The power plant is located on the Patuxent River and is owned by Mirant Corp.
Mirant spokeswoman Misty Allen says the fire ignited during a demolition project on a structure and created heavy smoke in the area. She says the fire did not affect the plant's operations.
