A Loudoun County (web|news) circuit judge has postponed the sentencing of a prominent civil rights figure convicted of incest. The Rev. James L. Bevel was convicted in April of having sex 15 years ago with his then-teenage daughter. He was to be sentenced Friday to up to 15 years in prison. Judge Burke F. McCahill ruled that the sentencing could not go forward because a psychological evaluation had not been provided to the defense on time. The report from the county department of mental health should have been completed at least five days before the sentencing. Bevel's attorney, Bonnie Hoffman, says she only received it Wednesday afternoon, and that the jail didn't deliver it to Bevel until Thursday. McCahill rescheduled the sentencing for Oct. 15.
