(Sports Network) - Candace Parker scored 40 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and had five blocked shots, but the Los Angeles Sparks needed overtime to beat Houston, 82-74.
Lisa Leslie added 13 points for the Sparks, who have won back-to-back contests, moving within a half-game of San Antonio for first place in the Western Conference.
Parker shot 15-of-23 from the field, but it was Leslie who took over in OT as she scored five points.

Tina Thompson tallied 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Comets, losers of two in a row. Sancho Lyttle added 12 points in defeat.
Houston wasted a 12-point third quarter lead, and Parker forced OT by making 1-of-2 free throws in the waning moments of regulation.
The Sparks had the opening eight points of the extra session, including five straight from Marie Ferdinand-Harris as LA capped its seven-game homestand on a winning note.
