A Frederick County Chief Fire Marshal Marc McNeil says about $20,000 in illegal fireworks were confiscated on July 4.

McNeil says more than 700 packages of fireworks were confiscated from the Ballenger, Carroll Manor, New Market and Green Valley areas on Friday.

Law enforcement agencies received 84 firework complaints between 6 p.m. and midnight. McNeil says no one was injured and only two property damage incidents were reported. Those who have or ignite illegal fireworks face a misdemeanor charge, state fines of $250 per offense and county fines of $500 per offense. McNeil says no one was charged or fined Friday but they had to hand over their fireworks.
