A Montgomery County (web|news) neighborhood is on edge and a pet owner is traumatized following a deadly dog attack.

Two small dogs and their owner were targeted by a larger dog near Tralee Terrace and Tralee Court in Damascus around 9:30 a.m. on July 5.

"That dog had his neck in his throat and I knew when I picked him up that he was dead," pet owner Connie Lee.

Lee is nursing a wounded arm, grieving over her Pomeranian Casey, and worrying about the dog which killed him.

Officials said a large tan dog, described as a possible Mastiff and Pit Bull mix, was chasing a small black dog the size of a Dachshund through the neighborhood. Lee, owner of two Pomeranians and another black-colored dog, was walking her dogs as the chase happened. "This gigantic, I mean this is the biggest dog I've ever seen, ran up and before I could do anything it had my dog on the side."

The Mastiff/Pit Bull mix dog attacked the 12-year-old Pomeranian, killing it. The second dog was also injured. The owner of the pets did get bit by one of the dogs, but she's not sure which because it happened while she was trying to separate them. 

"I think it's terrible it's scary makes me frightened to even take my dogs out," said Damascus resident Karen Duplan.

People in the neighborhood are concerned. "I won't walk too far because this dog is on the loose and they haven't caught it," neighbor Michelle Brooks said.

Montgomery County Police continue to canvas the entire area. So far, they also have found no one who knows of a dog which fits the description. This section of the county has numerous housing developments divided by stretches of woods. Despite the challenges, police hope to track the attack dog soon.

"For obvious reasons. He might have rabies just so he doesn't attack anybody else," said Officer Steven Pascali with Montgomery County Police.

Since the attack took place on the Saturday of the holiday weekend, police believe the offending canine may have been a guest and has left the area along with its owner. Regardless, the dog is still on the loose.
