LANHAM, Md. - In the D.C. area Thursday night, loyal Michael Jackson fans gathered to honor his legacy.
Hundreds of people came out in Lanham, Md., in front of the radio stations that are based there to listen to Jackson's music and celebrate his life and work.
Crowds lit candles in Jackson's memory and left behind notes. "It's just unbelievable," said a fan. "I think I'm still in denial."
Temple Hills resident Andrietta Sowell says dancing to Jackson's music helped her go into labor with her son 13 years ago. "I started dancing and I went into labor," she said.
Sowell shared her love of Jackson's music with her son, who wasn't even alive in the 1980s, but still can name all of his big hits.
One of the lasting memories people have of Jackson is the connection they made through his music. "His music formed a generation and just that we had someone to look up to who looked like us who was making it," said Lobiah Johnson, a Temple Hills resident.
Many say they hit stores and the Internet Thursday to try and buy Jackson's music.
