Another embarrassment is underway for the U.S. Capitol Police force. Several police academy trainees have resigned after officials discovered that they had been hired despite failing the standard criminal background checks.
Over the weekend, 15 new police recruits were told by police officials to resign or be fired. This accounts for about one-quarter of the current class at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia.
According to the Capitol Police, they carry out a "rigorous process" to select recruits, yet somehow these 15 were accepted and completed several weeks of training. No details are available about the nature of the criminal records held by those recruits.
