A Vienna woman died after the home she shared with two other people caught fire early Friday morning, a Fairfax County (web|news) Fire spokesman said.

Firefighters arrived at the home in the 300 block of Plum Street about 4:30 a.m. to find the single-story home fully engulfed. A smoke alarm had sounded, giving two men who lived in the home enough warning to escape the blaze without life-threatening injuries. One man was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital , the other to the Veteran Administration Medical Center.

Firefighters had to go into the home to find the woman. She was pulled from the home, but firefighters were not able to revive her.

"We did try to resuscitate her when we pulled her out of the home; unfortunately that was not successful," said
 Schmidt.

The woman who died was the last original homeowner in his neighborhood. She'd lived here since 1953. Her neighbor tried to rescue her, but his wife says the smoke was too thick.

The family dog also died in the fire. The home is a complete loss, and property losses have been estimated at $300,000.

Schmidt says the cause of the blaze has not been determined; fire crews are still dealing with hot spots.

"Investigators are interviewing the occupants, neighbors and trying to get into the house after it cools down so we can look around and dig out that fire," said Schmidt.

This is the fourth fire fatality of the year for Fairfax County.
