A bus has been destroyed by fire in downtown Washington, and the driver is being treated for smoke inhalation. Fire department spokesman Alan Etter says there were no passengers on the Peter Pan bus when the fire broke out at about 4 p.m. Etter says the burnt-out bus is on a service road of New York Avenue and isn't blocking anything. But the sight is attracting attention on New York Avenue and slowing down rush-hour traffic. It's unclear what caused the bus to catch fire. Etter says the blaze appears to have started in the engine.
