Montgomery County (web|news) officials say former county executive and longtime council member Neal Potter has died. He was 93.
Potter died on Tuesday of congestive heart failure at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg.
Potter was elected to the council in 1970 and became county executive in 1990. He served as executive until 1994, when he was re-elected to a sixth term on the council. He retired in 1998.
Potter was born in Arlington, Va., and was raised on a farm near Cabin John.
In a release, County Executive Isiah Leggett praised Potter's work on behalf of world peace with organizations such as the United World Federalists and Citizens for Global Solutions. Potter focused on issues including transportation, land use planning, taxation policy and legislation and assessment inequities.
