A growing number of business owners in the Gaithersburg area are asking police to prevent day laborers from looking for work on their property.

Gaithersburg Police Chief John King says 140 residential and commercial property owners in the city have signed papers giving police the authority to ban repeat trespassers.

King says 53 of the business are located along Maryland Route 355, where many day laborers gather for work.

King said officers aren't arresting people until offenders have been warned several times and told how to find and use the nearest day labor center in Derwood.

King says most people have responded to the warnings.

ScubaDude;

Maybe we should send the bill for the stolen goods to Ike?

Just saw on the 5 o'clock news, said parking lots are devoid of the bums when a reporter drove thru with a G'burg cop.

The police are handing out flyers to these people telling them to go to the job center. Can you believe that? They should be checking IDs and making arrests if they are illegal.
