Pastor Deron Cloud, the owner of the original Batmobile and the Soul Factory Church congregation, was crusading for justice and offering hope to those in need by giving away free gas.
The event took place at an Exxon Mobile gas station located at 7631 Marlboro Pike in Forestville, Md. at 6 p.m. Monday night.
They call themselves soldiers for Christ and members of the Soul Factory took their message of brotherly love to the pump. "We decided what better way to help someone right now than with a few free gallons of gas."
With the flash of a sign, the Exxon station became a mob scene as cars lined up for blocks to get $5 of free fuel. "I heard about it on the news and rushed up here. Gas prices are a killer so anytime you can catch something free, it's good."
William Ragland said the bill to fill up his SUV lately wasn't pretty. "They've been 80 or more."
Over 700 gallons of free gas was given away as part of the organization's "Least we can do" campaign. When the 700 gallons ran out, the soldiers dug deep into their own pockets to keep the gas pumping. "This is an opportunity for the church to give back and do something for the community."
One driver said, "I thank God for this. It's a blessing. I can go to work tomorrow." A total of 125 cars got $5 of free gas each.
