D.C. police say the mayor of District Heights has been charged with propositioning an undercover officer posing as a prostitute.
Police say 30-year-old James Walls (bio) Jr. was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at Sixth and F streets northwest and charged with solicitation for lewd and immoral purposes.
District Heights vice mayor Eddie Martin called the accusation against Walls ludicrous. "You can't lock up a person for talking to someone in the street."
District Height's Web site says Walls, an ordained Baptist minister and Bowie State University graduate, was the youngest person to serve as mayor when he was elected in 2006. His term runs until 2010.
As for reactions from residents in District Heights, "I must say it is a surprise that our mayor would get caught up in something like this," said one person. Another person said, "It wasn't shocking cause you hear about it everyday."
The site says Walls is the town administrator for the Town of Fairmount Heights and the associate pastor of Forestville New Redeemer Baptist Church.
