The heavy rain the area has gotten over the past few days is causing roads to flood, forcing people to try and find a different way to and from their homes.
Four inches of rain powered once tame creeks into rolling torrents and on several Fairfax County (web|news) streets there's water where road should be.
"I hope it's not too bad," said Vienna resident Victoria McGee.
In Vienna, flood waters have eased back off the asphalt, for now, but the threat of another wash-over is real and it's having a continuing impact on neighborhood commutes.
"It's always a hassle going down Courthouse," said McGee.
The over soaked ground can't hold any more rain.As one man said, the water isn't standing, it's loitering. And for some that means soggy basements.
"Whenever we get a big rain, I go down and I check," said Vienna resident Henry Weigel.
Drainage pipes are overwhelmed with the volume and as flood waters recede they leave behind debris, such as brush and branches, which is potentially another hazard.
One local business says what many are thinking. "Once the sun comes back out, business will pick up again. As a matter of fact, at least we can count on something to do the watering for us."
Police have been busy blocking roadways where people should not be driving.
