Gaithersburg Police detectives arrested a suspect in the murder of Lindsay Harvey, who was killed on April 13 and found behind a dumpster.
Twenty-five-year-old Shawn Henderson from Landover is accused of shooting and killing the victim, charged with first-degree murder.
The body of Harvey was found near a dumpster in the 700 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard.
Investigators believe Harvey parked her car nearby between 1:15 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. after an evening out with friends. Harvey was apparently walking back to her apartment when she was attacked and fatally shot. Her body was found about 12 hours later.
Detective said they learned several people in the area heard the sound of a single gunshot in the area of the dumpster. As police investigated, they noticed several items were missing from the victim's purse.
The medical examiner said she died from a gunshot wound. Police believe the motive was robbery.
Harvey regularly walked her dogs through the neighborhood. Neighbors knew her as a friendly person.
"I was upset. I mean, it's pretty tragic," said Harvey's neighbor, Steven Jones. "A very nice person. Of course when it happens in your building, to your next door neighbor, it's pretty upsetting."
"It could have been me, anybody, that got killed," said Shenise Johnson, who lives in Germantown. "And we don't even know what happened to her and when it happened."
Harvey worked as a DNA analyst for the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory. She helped identify many of those killed in past conflicts, including the Vietnam War, Korean War & World War II, according to a statement from her employer.
"It's really scary. It's terrifying to know that something -- especially since nothing, rarely ever happens like that in this community, at all -- and it's just really scary to know that something like that can happen, especially to someone so close to my age," said Brandie Williams of Germantown.

TVC15 is right.
I was also amazed at how fast a suspect was apprehended in this case, but caseloads and cooperation are huge factors in solving crimes. Maybe this piece of crap was caught using the victim's credit card. I heard about the woman in Oxon Hill and her life is as significant as anyone else's, but the circumstances surrounding here death are "suspicious" and her baby's daddy isn't providing much assistance to the authorities. I hope they apprehend whoever is responsible for her murder as well.
