More than 60 suspected illegal immigrants detained at the Prince William County (web|news) jail have been picked up by federal immigration authorities since Friday.

The transfers come after complaints by jail officials that federal agents were taking weeks to pick up the immigrants, rather than 72 hours under an agreement that went into effect in July.

Officials said crowding at the jail had hit and all-time high because of the delays, and that the jail was spending $220,000 a month to house inmates elsewhere in the state.

Congressman Frank Wolf wrote to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff last week, asking that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement speed the transfers.

Please folks give ICE some slack, Immigration personnel are working very long hours with ICE Agents to process illegals Immigrants and deport. People have to remember it is a process it has to go through the courts America is a country of laws we want them enforced I know I do, but it doesn't work over night. You have Immigration attorneys who fight hard to keep even violent criminals in the country who never belonged here in the first place sad but true. I invite anyone to sit in the courts and watch the process for a while to see how it works it would wake you up and probably get you angry! The number of crimes being committed would blow your mind too, not just the violent criminal acts but the so called "non violent money crimes" that cost of billions of dollars every year. Just give ICE and Border Patrol and Prince William Cty your support.
