Montgomery County (web|news) Police are investigating whether robbery was the motive for the shooting that left a 25-year-old woman dead in Gaithersburg.

The body of Lindsay Marie Harvey was found near a dumpster in the 700 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard Sunday afternoon.

Investigators believe Harvey parked her car nearby between 1:15 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. after an evening out with friends. Harvey was apparently walking back to her apartment when she was attacked and fatally shot. Her body was found about 12 hours later.

Harvey regularly walked her dogs through the neighborhood. Neighbors knew her as a friendly person.

"I was upset. I mean, it's pretty tragic," said Harvey's neighbor, Steven Jones. "A very nice person. Of course when it happens in your building, to your next door neighbor, it's pretty upsetting."

"It could have been me, anybody, that got killed," said Shenise Johnson, who lives in Germantown. "And we don't even know what happened to her and when it happened."

Harvey worked as a DNA analyst for the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory. She helped identify many of those killed in past conflicts, including the Vietnam War, Korean War & World War II, according to a statement from her employer.

"It's really scary. It's terrifying to know that something -- especially since nothing, rarely ever happens like that in this community, at all -- and it's just really scary to know that something like that can happen, especially to someone so close to my age," said Brandie Williams of Germantown.

Police say Harvey lived near where her body was found.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.

Lindsey was a very special person - she had many friends, was a caring and good person who loved animals, and was respected in the Forensics field.

She had been out with her friends when this happened, and chose to go home because she was tired...Because she left by herself, a woman alone - there is a great deal of "survivor's guilt" going on right now and to accuse her of "hanging out with the wrong people" is just not correct. She hung out with all of the right people. She didn't know the person who did this and I do know that the law enforcement field and their forensics team will do all they can to find out who did this to her.

It was no one she knew - to assume that is to assume wrongly. Know the facts before you speak out.
