Green Tree Pythons Hatched at Smithsonian's National Zoo

A green tree python at the Smithsonian's National Zoo emerged from its egg at the end of March.
The eleven pythons that hatched are currently being raised behind the scenes at the National Zoo's Reptile Discovery Center, but visitors to the Center can see the young snakes that hatched in September and range in color from red to yellow.
Despite their name, green tree pythons range in color when they hatch and can be red, purple, yellow or orange. They do not fully turn green for a few years and some might turn yellow or blue. A snake's color is determined by genetics and based the color of its parents when they hatched.
Green tree pythons are native to Australia and New Guinea.
