Prince William County (web|news) Police Chief Charlie Deane says only two of the 89 people questioned about their citizenship or immigration status were found to be in the country legally during the first month of increased illegal immigration enforcement in the county.

Deane says the rest are thought to be in the country illegally, but only two of those 87 were detained on immigration-related charges.

He says seven of those questioned face felonies - including attempted murder and shoplifting. Another 32 people were charged with misdemeanors - including domestic assault and public drunkenness - and 25 others received citations for minor offenses.

Police are referring the 87 cases to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
