Memorials for Street-Racing Fans Removed

The fans were killed on February 16th when a motorist that was not part of the street race plowed into them on a suburban highway just after two racing cars had sped off. Many relatives and friends of the victims put up makeshift memorials with flowers, stuffed animals and other items. The Maryland State Highway administration has bagged and removed the items. The agency says it's required to remove anything that endangers drivers.
Relatives of victim 61-year-old William Gaines are angry about the removal. They have erected a new makeshift memorial and say they will keep doing it until a permanent one is built for all the victims.
