ARLINGTON, Va. - A teenager accused of driving drunk on the wrong way down Interstate 66 and causing a crash that killed two women faced a judge Tuesday.
Seventeen-year-old Kyle Woisard walked out of the Arlington County courthouse Tuesday free on house arrest. The Chantilly High School student used crutches because of injuries he suffered in the deadly drunk driving accident he's accused of causing.
Exactly three months ago on Nov. 17, Woisard was allegedly driving a car the wrong way on I-66 in Arlington when he crashed head-on into a Toyota Corolla. Two women were killed.
Tuesday was Woisard's first court appearance since being charged with aggravated DWI manslaughter last Friday. Arlington County prosecutors say details of the case are still confidential, but Woisard's blood was tested for alcohol and drugs. The evidence from those tests will be revealed at trial.
A passenger in Woisard's car and the driver of the other vehicle both survived. According to his attorney, Woisard escaped being killed.
Woisard will be back in court, as prosecutors push to try him as an adult. Defense Attorney Peter Greenspun says this is part of the process.
Many people believe Woisard should face charges as an adult. "If you're capable of taking a life, you're capable of being accountable for it as an adult," said Min Shepherd, an Arlington resident.
