Maryland Bill Would Make It Crime to Smoke with Kids in Car
posted 4:43 am Mon February 25, 2008 - ANNAPOLIS, Md.
It would be a crime to smoking in the car if kids are inside under a bill up for debate Monday in the Maryland legislature.

A House committee is scheduled to take up a proposal to fine drivers $50 for smoking when children under the age of six are in the car. State law already prohibits bus drivers and commercial drivers from smoking with kids in a vehicle, but there is no crime for parents who do it. The bill up Monday seeks to protect child health, but it raises privacy concerns from some. A similar measure failed last year in the Maryland Senate.
